Interview with "The Westerner" newspaper in Queensland
Name: Jeanette Jones
Business name: Angel Blessings
Year business established: 1992
Based at: Calliston Court Cashmere 4500
What services does your business offer?
Psychic Readings / Regular Meditation and Psychic Development Classes / Courses in Tarot,
Numerology and Feng Shui, Connecting with your Angels and Guides. I have been involved in all these activities for more than 45 years.
What areas do your clients come from?
I have lived in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth before moving to Queensland and still read for many
of my clients either via telephone, when I visit those places or when they visit Queensland.
As I advertise on the Internet, I also connect with many people from overseas.
How did you make your first dollar?
I started charging when consulting with readings started taking up a lot of my time.
People I read for started referring me to their Family and friends but I only wanted to limit the readings to people I knew personally.
Those who were keen for readings then started to offer payment in return for my time.
And that’s how I got started!!
How did you get into your current line of work?
My grandmother was a psychic medium. Growing up in Singapore and Malaysia exposed me to the paranormal and belief in the supernatural so it was something I grew up with.
I used to read with ordinary playing cards and was only introduced to Tarot cards and meditation when our family lived in Scotland and I attended services in the Spiritual Churches over
there. It amazed me that ‘just’ pictures could tell such stories. I just fell in love with my first deck of Tarot cards and have since added Angel Cards, Zen cards etc to my collection of more than 50 decks.
Why is a business like yours so important?
I believe people like me provide a safe warm environment where a person can confide in us and know that any information given will be confidential.
Clients know we are unbiased and can offer them good sound advice, comfort and insight into
What sort of clients does your business provide services to?
Clients come from all environments. People are people and no matter the colour of skin or their financial situation, we are all interested in our families, relationships, careers, financial stability and what the future holds. There are no statistics as to what particular group of clients we have. (Or at least I don’t)
What is the most unique job your business has done?
I once read for people working in a Car Repair place and was regulated to a backroom where I had
to actually sit on a chair covered with someone’s jacket and use a board on a milk crate to spread out my cards. (My lesson from that was to always carry my own table and chair from then on. Just in case!!!)
Another time, I read in a disco where I could barely hear my thoughts let alone what my clients were
saying so the fact that there was a queue waiting for a reading was weird. They could obviously hear me but I could hear nothing except loud music. (Hey, I was about 58 years old at that time.)
Then there was a time when I turned up to this address for a party booking and the place was a Brothel. Yes.
And we won’t even comment further as my daughter was horrified enough to say, “Mum, what would happen if the police raided the place while you were in there??? I can imagine the headlines in the paper!”
Probably could come up with hundreds of other stories!!! But every incident was fun and I love my job.
Before your current job, what were your previous occupations?
I was a teacher in the “Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus” in Singapore until I resigned in 1972 to
go overseas with my family. We lived in various countries and whilst overseas, I taught Aerobics, Jazzercise, Yoga, Asian Cooking, Macrame and of course did my Readings and educated myself in New Age subjects. We returned to Australia in 1997.
What do your customers most appreciate about your services?
People tell me I listen, have empathy and sympathy and am honest.
What is the best part of your job?
I get to meet the nicest people ever. Many clients have become good friends.
What advice would you give to anyone considering working in your line of work?
You need lots of Patience and be a good Listener.
The cards never lie so the Reader has to be a good interpreter.
If you didn’t work in your current job, what job would you like to do?
I cannot see myself doing anything else. I love what I do.
Voted Queensland's People's Choice Award for Psychic for 2013.
